Julia Stephens

Julia Stephens is a performer and writer from Southern California, of mixed American and Persian heritage. She is based in Los Angeles and New York City. Her work spans theater, film, and nonfiction, with a focus on bold, character-driven storytelling. She is especially drawn to exploring relationships, identity, power dynamics, and the taboo — often through stories that blend emotional depth with sharp humor.

She is the creator and star of the original web series Really It’s Rita, which received interest from major television networks, and co-creator of the semi-improvised series Ctrl+Alt+Underground, featuring top comedic talent. Her nonfiction writing has appeared in The New York Times, and she was selected as one of a small group of writers for the CBS Diversity Showcase. Her short film was featured on the front page of Refinery29. She currently works in television.

Her current project, ROOMIES, is an autobiographical solo show in development that explores the connection between two unlikely roommates navigating extraordinary circumstances. It is set to premiere in New York City, with an Edinburgh Fringe run planned for August 2026.

With a multidisciplinary background in performance and writing, Julia is committed to creating work that resonates across platforms — from stage to screen — and isn’t afraid to hold both laughter and heartbreak in the same breath. She holds a degree from UCLA, where she graduated magna cum laude.

A lifelong performer, Julia grew up doing theater and spending her evenings on the beach. She splits her time between cities and loves discovering new ones.
